Lorretta M. Stille, 95, of Moline, IL, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2012 at Riverside United Methodist Church, 712 16th Street, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church Children's Library or to Trinity Pathway Hospice.

Lorretta was born on January 3, 1917 in Charles City, IA the daughter of Lester and Hannah (Uetz) Bennett. Prior to marriage she earned a teaching certificate and taught in a one room school in northeast Iowa. She married Robert C. Stille on June 20, 1941 at Central Methodist Church, Charles City, Iowa. Together they raised five children and were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Family was a very important part of their lives and she was the cornerstone of the family. Robert preceded her in death on March 29, 2007. Lorretta was an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. In addition, she taught Vacation Bible School, was SS Elementary Department Head, and was in charge of the children's library where she ran reading programs each year. She became involved with tutoring neighborhood children at the church which then led to her developing an after school tutoring program for the Hispanic United Methodist Church, Rock Island. Working with children for all these years was the highlight of her life and inspiring children to read was her passion.

For her work with the tutoring program she was recognized by the Key Women Educators of Beta Epsilon and the Bi State Literacy Program. She was awarded life membership for her work in the PTA. She was a member of United Methodist Women's Society. Having a flower garden and fresh flowers were very comforting to her and she eagerly looked forward to family visits and get-togethers.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Stille clan as we think of the
wonderful life that Loretta lived
She spent her days living for others
She gave and recieved grace
She inspired all to bring the best out in them
She glowed with pride when she updated me with her family issues
I had the opportunity to speak with her in the past several weeks
and to visit with her in person not so long ago
she mentioned that she was living on memories
what wonderful memories she had and provided
Am sure her soul is happy as she sees how the grace she lived by has developed in all whose lives she touched
I will miss the smiles that came for Bob and Loretta
their message was constant
we love you unconditionally
and we take pride in your development along God's path
Bob and Loretta will always be a part of all of us

My sincere condolences to the Stille family. I will always remember Mrs.
Stille with much fondness and respect. She set a splendid example of
maternal kindness which I observed with her family and which she extended
to neighborhood miscreants such as myself! In truth I looked up to her,
a most virtuous person whose sterling legacy is exemplified in my mind
by the graciousness shown when she sent a Christmas "care" package
filled with cookies and warm wishes to me during my time overseas as a
lonely young man stationed on the Korean DMZ. She warmed my heart,
something I have never forgotten and will always appreciate. No family
was blessed with a finer mother.

With fondest wishes that Mrs. Stille's legacy endures always in your
hearts as well,

Kirk Witherspoon
